Famed Hollywood screenwriter and filmmaker Nora Ephron passed away this week after a long battle with leukemia. Ephron family’s confirms the three-time Oscar nominee died Tuesday evening at a New York hospital. She was 71.
"We thank you all for your thoughts,” the family said in a statement.
Ephron is perhaps best known for her romantic comedies. Her hits include “When Harry Met Sally,” “Sleepless In Seattle” and “You’ve Got Mail.” Ephron’s drama “Heartburn,” which was based on her novel of the same name, was also highly successful. Her last films were 2005’s “Bewitched” with Nicole Kidman and Will Ferrell, and 2009’s “Julie & Julia” with Meryl Streep and Amy Adams. Ephron also wrote several essays and blogged regularly for The Huffington Post.
Ephron was married three times; first to author Dan Greenberg for 9 years and then to Watergate reporter Carl Bernstein for 4 years. She wed screenwriter Nicholas Pileggi in 1987 and remained married to him until her death. In addition to Pileggi, Efron is survived by her two sons with Bernstein and her three younger sisters.
