7 Dead In Explosion At Crowded Railway In Pakistan

A deadly explosion at a crowded railway station in southeast Pakistan late Wednesday is likely the work of Baloch separatist militants, officials say. The bomb was planted in a tea stall at the station in Sibi, a town in Balochistan province.

Ethnic Punjabi travelers on board an express train running from Quetta to Rawalpindi are believed to be the intended targets of the attack, according to government officials. The train had just pulled up to a platform when the bomb exploded around 11:30 p.m. local time.

Authorities say 7 people were killed and 18 others were wounded. Government official Shahid Saleem told AFP at least one young child and one railway constable were among the dead. The death toll is expected to rise as many of the wounded are in critical condition.
