I Love Lucy Star Doris Singleton Dies At 92

Doris Singleton, an actress who appeared alongside Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz on I Love Lucy, passed away Tuesday in Los Angeles. The cause of death is unclear. Singleton was 92.

Lucie Arnaz, Ball and Arnaz’s daughter, paid tribute to Singleton and Hollywood screenwriter Nora Ephron in a post on her official Facebook page. "A day of saying hasta luego to two great ladies, Nora Ephron and Doris Singleton. May they both fly swiftly heavenward and enjoy a blissful rest for jobs well done down here. They were loved and appreciated and will be missed,” Arnaz wrote.

Singleton’s close friendship with Lucille Ball began when she landed a guest role on Ball’s radio show My Favorite Husband in 1948. In 1953, Singleton played Ball’s neighbor Carolyn Appleby on I Love Lucy for the first time. She appeared on the sitcom a total of 10 times. Singleton made appearances on Ball’s other shows, including The Lucy Show, Here’s Lucy and Lucy Moves To NBC. Her other TV credits include Hogan’s Heroes, My Three Sons, The Munsters, The Dick Van Dyke Show, Days of Our Lives and Dynasty.

Singleton was married to writer and director Charles Isaacs for 61 years. Isaacs died in 2002.
