Katie Holmes announced Friday she is ending her 5 year marriage to Tom Cruise. Holmes’ attorney confirmed the divorce in a statement to People magazine. A rep for Cruise has not commented. The reason for the couple’s surprise split is unclear.
"This is a personal and private matter for Katie and her family. Katie's primary concern remains, as it always has been, her daughter's best interest,” said attorney Jonathan Wolfe.
Holmes, 33, and Cruise, 49, began dating in 2005 and welcomed daughter Suri in April 2006. They tied the knot at Odescalchi Castle in Bracciano, Italy in November 2006.
This was the first marriage for Holmes and the third for Cruise. The Rock of Ages star was previously married to Mimi Rogers and Nicole Kidman.
