Actress Parminder Nagra, who starred in the popular medical drama E.R., is now entangled in a messy divorce and her estranged husband is asking for half of her fortune.
According to the court documents, James Stenson, is seeking $500,000 in damages and half of the properties they own together.
The couple met in London in 2003, but did not marry until 2009. Just after they met Nagra landed a role in E.R. and asked Stenson to join her in Los Angeles. He quit his job as a photographer, earning $300,000 a year to “join her in all of her personal and business ventures and to combine his life with hers.”
The complaint stated that the couple was “life partners” for almost six years prior to getting married.
Nagra filed for divorce in February, citing irreconcilable differences. Since the couple has a three year old child together, they will need a divorce lawyer to help them draft a child custody arrangement.
When people marry they don’t really consider the legal battles they face if the relationship doesn’t work. Couples with wealth or numerous assets, who decide to marry, may find it is in their best interest to have a divorce attorney draft a pre-nuptial agreement. These agreements determine what assets, alimony or child support each of the spouse will receive when their nuptials fails.
Divorce lawyers ease the legal headaches of dissolution by guiding their clients through the process and making certain their settlement works in their favor.
