Former pro football player Lawrence Phillips was
convicted Tuesday of assault and other felony charges. The charges stem from
two incidences in 2005 when he attacked and choked his girlfriend.
Phillips, 34, was found guilty of seven counts, including
assault with great bodily injury, corporal injury on a spouse or roommate,
false imprisonment, making criminal threats and auto theft. He faces up to 25
years in prison. A hearing is set for September 8.
Phillips is accused to choking his girlfriend until she
lost consciousness and assaulting her. Two of his former girlfriends testified
that he had also choked them on separate occasions.
In October 2008, Phillips was sentenced to 10 years in
prison for driving on to a field and hitting three boys and a 19-year-old in
his girlfriend’s car.
Phillips played for the St. Louis Rams, Miami Dolphins
and the San Francisco 49ers.
