FIFA has announced the three finalists for the coveted World Footballer of the Year award. The shortlist is comprised of Italy’s Fabio Cannavaro, Brazil’s Ronaldinho, and France’s Zidane Zidane.
Cannavaro, the captain of Italy’s World Cup winning squad, has already been named European Footballer of the Year.
Brazil’s Ronaldinho has captured the title of World Footballer of the Year twice. His club team, Barcelona, won the 2006 European Champions League earlier this year.
Zidane has won the award three times in his career and this will be his final chance at four. Zidane retired after taking France to the World Cup finals this year.
The winner of the award will be announced at the FIFA gala December 18 in Zurich.
