Death Certificate Shows Andy Griffith Died Of Heart Attack

The death certificate for Andy Griffith shows the iconic TV star died of a heart attack in his Manteo, North Carolina home. The certificate, which was filed Thursday in Dare County, says coronary artery disease, hypertension and hyperlipidemia were contributing factors in his death.

Griffith passed away Tuesday at 7 a.m., 24 hours after he suffered the heart attack. He was buried less than five hours later in the Griffith Family Cemetery on Roanoke Island. Griffith was 86.

The Matlock star is survived by his wife of 29-years, Cindi, and his daughter, Dixie. "Andy was a person of incredibly strong Christian faith and was prepared for the day he would be called Home to his Lord. He is the love of my life, my constant companion, my partner, and my best friend. I cannot imagine life without Andy, but I take comfort and strength in God's Grace and in the knowledge that Andy is at peace and with God,” Cindi said in a statement this week.

Griffith is best known for his role as Sheriff Andy Taylor on The Andy Griffith Show. He also starred for 9 years on the legal drama Matlock.
