Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's Outburst in Congo Receives Backlash

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has received some backlash after having an outburst in response to a question during a forum in Congo.

Clinton responded with a bad temper after a student in Congo asked her for her husband’s opinions on Congo’s trade contracts with China.

“Wait, you want me to tell you what my husband thinks?” responded Clinton. “My husband is not the Secretary of State. I am.”

“So you ask my opinion, I will tell you my opinion,” said Clinton. “I’m not going to be channeling my husband.”

According to reports, the student was interpreted by the translator. He asked what President Obama’s views on the contracts were, not former President Bill Clinton’s. After Clinton’s response, the student hurriedly explained himself again.

Many people that saw her reaction feel like she is not diplomatic enough to be our representative abroad, while others believe that her overreaction was just a response to several other factors. After a very rigorous presidential campaign as the first woman to be in primaries for a national party ticket, she has always attempted to step out of the shadow of her husband and be respected, not just as a woman, but as a politician.

The forum was held in Kinshasa, which is internationally notorious for its issues with rape, and she was on her longest tour as Secretary of State.

Despite the circumstances, it is evident that Clinton is not a fan of questions regarding her husband’s political views.
