Joe Johnson, Vince Carter, Amare Stoudemire, and Carlos Boozer lead their teams to victories in NBA action from Wednesday night.
Joe Johnson scored 36 points and Josh Smith finished with 10 points, 13 rebounds, and 5 assists as the Atlanta Hawks (6-7) beat the Charlotte Bobcats (4-11) 99-90. Tyronn Lue added 25 points for the Hawks. Sean May had 21 points and 17 rebounds and Raymond Felton chipped in another 21 points for the Bobcats.
Quentin Richardson scored 27 points and grabbed 9 rebounds to lead the New York Knicks (6-11) past the Cleveland Cavaliers (9-6) 101-98. Eddy Curry finished with 24 points as the Knicks shot 53 percent from the field. LeBron James led the Cavaliers with 27 points. The loss was Cleveland’s second at home this year.
Vince Carter led the New Jersey Nets (6-9) to a come from behind victory over the Boston Celtics (5-9) 106-103. Carter finished with 23 points and 9 rebounds while Jason Kidd had 19 points, 8 rebounds and 9 assists in the win. Paul Pierce led the Celtics with 31 points.
The Dallas Mavericks (11-4) won their eleventh straight game as they hammered the Toronto Raptors (5-10) 117-98. Josh Howard had 26 points for the Mavericks and Erick Dampier added 13 points and 14 rebounds in the win. Chris Bosh led the Raptors with 18 points and 11 rebounds.
The Phoenix Suns (8-6) blew a 17-point halftime lead but rallied in the fourth quarter to beat the Houston Rockets (10-5) 102-91. Amare Stoudemire had 22 points and 15 rebounds and Shawn Marion added 13 points and 12 rebounds in the win. Tracy McGrady led the Rockets with 23 points.
Carlos Boozer continued his solid play with 23 points and 16 rebounds as the Utah Jazz (13-3) held on to beat the San Antonio Spurs (11-5) 83-75 at home. Matt Harpring added 13 points and 12 rebounds for Utah. The Jazz out-rebounded the Spurs 50-34 in the game. Tim Duncan led the Spurs with 21 points and 10 rebounds. It was the Spurs second road loss of the year.
Dwight Howard scored 24 points and grabbed 12 rebounds and Carlos Arroyo added 16 points as the Orlando Magic (12-4) went on the road and beat the Seattle Supersonics (6-10) 94-84. Ray Allen finished with 21 points and Rashard Lewis had 18 for the Supersonics.
Stephen Jackson hit the game winning three pointer with one second remaining to lift the Indiana Pacers (9-7) past the Golden State Warriors (9-7)108-106. Jackson finished with 13 points while Al Harrington had 28 points and Jermaine O’Neal added 20 points and 11 rebounds for the Pacers. Monta Ellis led the Warriors with 27 points.
The LA Clippers (7-7) continued to win at home after cruising by the Memphis Grizzlies (4-11) 105-90. Cuttino Mobley scored 24 points for the Clippers while Elton Brand added 20 points and 9 rebounds. Hakim Warrick led the Grizzlies with 22 points in teh loss.
