Mexico Defeats USA, 2-1, in World Cup Soccer Qualifier

The Mexican national soccer team defeated the USA team, 2-1, in Mexico City on Wednesday in the World Cup qualifier.

Mexico earned a berth in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa with this CONCACAF qualifier win.

Team USA remains winless (0-23-1) at Estadio Azteca, the official stadium for Mexican football.

The game started quickly with a USA goal from Charlie Davies in the 8th minute, but 10 minutes later, Mexico tied it with a goal from Israel Macias Castro. In the 83rd minute, Mexico’s Miguel Sabah, a substitute, was wide open in front of the goal when he took a pass from Efrain Juarez and beat US goalkeeper Tim Howard.

The US team needs to win more games in order to qualify for the World Cup. They play El Salvador on September 5 in Sandy, Utah.
