USC quarterback
Aaron Corp will be out for 1-2 weeks after an
MRI on Wednesday revealed a small crack on the head of his left fibula.
Freshman
sensation Matt Barkley will now step in as the starting quarterback, which he lost after a
heavy battle against Corp during spring training. Corp beat out Barkley and
former
“Matt's
going to try and make the most of this opportunity," USC coach Pete
Carroll said in a statement.
Corp was
hurt Monday when a lineman rolled into his knee, though he missed only a few
plays before returning to practice.
However, Corp
couldn't practice Tuesday because of pain and swelling. An X-ray was
inconclusive but revealed no ligament damage. The injury will not require
surgery.
Barkley
entered this season as the No. 1 high school football prospect in the nation from last
year’s class. He received even more attention after grasping the complicated
Carroll offense quicker than expected.
USC’s
season opener is on September 5 as they host
