Astronomy.FM is proud to announce the winner of its recent "AAPOD of the Month" contest.

Astronomy.FM is proud to announce the winner of its recent "AAPOD of the Month" contest.  Members of Astronomy.FM each cast a vote for one of July’s "Amateur Astronomy Picture of the Day" photos.  The abundance of excellent AAPODs made the choice difficult!  The candidates included photos taken with personal astrophotography equipment, remote telescopes such as Global Rent a Scope and others, and personal digital cameras.

The winner was announced on August 10 on the weekly
Space Pirate Radio online radio show, by hosts Marty Kunz and Dr. Marleen Bryan.

Tom Murdic (Murdic1), the photographer of the winning AAPOD, "
Recent Impact on Jupiter", will receive an account with 60 points for use on any of the Global Rent a Scope remote telescopes.

Tom Murdic "It's a real privilege and honor to share and be recognized for something I personally enjoy as a life passion."

The second-place winner, "
Noctilucent Clouds Panorama" by Adrian West and  third-place, "Diamond Ring: 2009 Total Solar Eclipse" by Daniele Cipollina, received honorable mention on the radio program.

We encourage everyone to participate in Astronomy.FM's daily and monthly AAPODs. You can register to vote and/or submit your own images, here.  We look forward to more excellent AAPOD pictures on Astronomy.FM in August!
