Northern California is once again under assault from wildfires as several hundred residents near Santa Cruz, Santa Barbara and Shasta counties have been evacuated as their homes now lie in the path of the growing flames.
By Thursday morning more than 2,300 acres had been charred by the wildfire and authorities had ordered a mandatory evacuation for nearly 600 people.
More than 2,000 firefighters have continued to battle the blaze that now threatens about 250 homes and 25 businesses around the town of Davenport, about ten miles north of Santa Cruz.
In Santa Barbara County more than 33 acres of land near the Los Padres National Forest was destroyed and the fire forced the evacuation of ranchers and their livestock. Firefighters have also been battling a blaze in Shasta County in the town of Burney.
