Donte Stallworth of the Cleveland Browns will be suspended without pay for the 2009 season. This is in retaliation to Stallworth violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy and its substance abuse policy. As many know Stallworth, 28, pleaded guilty to DUI manslaughter.
Donte Stallworth is scheduled to be reinstated after the Super Bowl in February 2010. “There is no question that your actions had tragic consequences to an innocent man and his family, and that you violated both the Substances of Abuse and Personal Conduct Policies,” Goodell said.
The Cleveland Browns signed Stallworth to a seven-year, $35 million contract in 2008. The goal was to make Stallworth a complimentary player for Braylon Edwards, and release pressure from Edwards. Stallworth never got the opportunity to fulfill these dreams. Stallworth got injured and only participated in seven starts. This left Cleveland with a very disappointing season.
