The NFL preseason get under way on Thursday night with four games on schedule and there will be plenty of storylines to follow.
Tom Brady will be back under center for the New England Patriots after missing the 2008 NFL season following a knee injury suffered in the team’s first game. The Patriots will be in Philadelphia on Thursday night to face Donovan McNabb and the rest of the Eagles but neither starter is expected to take too many snaps. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET.
The Washington Redskins won’t be showing off their prized off-season acquisition Albert Haynesworth on Thursday night as they take on the Baltimore Ravens. That should be a welcome sign for Ravens QB Joe Flacco who appears determined to prove his impressive rookie season as a signal caller was no fluke. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET.
In a rematch of last year’s Super Bowl game the Pittsburgh Steelers will be facing the Arizona Cardinals with both team’s roster remaining largely intact. Pittsburgh edged the Cardinals in the closing minute for the Super Bowl win and will look to prove it was no fluke as they approach the 2009 NFL season with a commitment to go back-to-back. Kickoff is set for 8:00 p.m. ET.
The always interesting Oakland Raiders will get their 2009 NFL preseason underway on Thursday as they host the Dallas Cowboys. As always there are a number of questions that surround Dallas and most of them center on quarterback Tony Romo and how well the offense will operate without Terrell Owens. No doubt there will be pressure on Romo from the start. Kickoff is set for 10:00 p.m. ET.
