The Florida Gators is listed as the top team in Rivals.com’s college football preseason rankings on Wednesday.
The reigning national champions return seven offensive
starters, including 2007 Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow, and the entire
defensive starting lineup that held
Tebow loses star wide receiver Percy Harvin, but still keep the speedy trio of Brandon James, Jeff Demps and Chris Rainey in the backfield. Sophomore wideout Deonte Thompson is expected to step up in their depleted receiving corps.
Linebacker Brandon Spikes leads the defense as one of the nation’s top linebackers. Defensive end Carlos Dunlap and cornerbacks Joe Haden and Ahmad Black are also amongst the nation’s best at their respective positions. Sophomore safety Will Hill might be the most talented player in the defensive backfield as a reserve
The Texas Longhorns, USC Trojans, Oklahoma Sooners and Alabama
Crimson tide round out the top five.
The Virginia Tech Hokies, Ohio State Buckeyes, Ole Miss Rebels, Boise State Broncos and Oklahoma State Cowboys finish out Sports Illustrated’s top 10.
