Disabled Woman Awarded Decision in Tribunal Against Clothing Retailer Abercrombie and Fitch

A 22-year-old Englishwoman has won a decision against clothing retailer Abercrombie and Fitch after a London tribunal awarded the former employee more than $13,300 due to the company’s failure to comply with employment law.

According to Riam Dean, who has a prosthetic arm, Abercrombie and Fitch “diminished” her role within the Saville Row store after realizing she had a disability. Dean told the tribunal she was harassed and forced to work in the stockroom because she did not fit the company’s “all-American” image.

Abercrombie and Fitch denied that Dean had been discriminated against and told the tribunal the company valued inclusiveness yet the decision reflected otherwise. Dean was award $226 for basic compensation, $1,792 for lost wages and $11,319 for hurt feelings.
