What looked like could be a long and bitter divorce battle for Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes has already ended with the pair quickly reaching a divorce settlement. The agreement has been signed and their divorce is official, Holmes’ lawyer Jonathan W. Wolfe announced Monday. The settlement comes less than two weeks after Holmes’ June 29th divorce filing.
“The case has been settled and the agreement has been signed. We are thrilled for Katie and her family and are excited to watch as she embarks on the next chapter of her life,” Wolfe said in a statement.
"We thank Tom's counsel for their professionalism and diligence that helped bring about this speedy resolution,” he added.
Details on the settlement, including the custody arrangement for the couple’s 6-year-old daughter Suri, have not been released. In a joint statement released Monday before news of the settlement broke, Holmes and Cruise said they remain committed to parenting Suri together.
"We are committed to working together as parents to accomplish what is in our daughter Suri's best interests. We want to keep matters affecting our family private and express our respect for each other's commitment to each of our respective beliefs and support each other's roles as parents," the pair said.
This was the first marriage for Holmes, 33, and the third for Cruise, 50. The Rock of Ages star was previously married to Mimi Rogers and Nicole Kidman.
