Insiders say Usher is “torn up” over the condition of his stepson, Kyle Glover. Kyle, 11, was declared brain dead over the weekend at an Atlanta hospital after an accident at Lake Lanier. Usher and ex-wife Tameka Foster have been with Kyle since the accident.
“Tameka and Usher don’t get along, but in this circumstance Usher is coming to her side. Usher practially raised Kyle as his own. He’s known him for seven years. It is so sad what happened,” a source tells Us Weekly.
“He grew close to Kyle and, of course, that has nothing to do with the situation with Tameka,” a second source adds. “He loved Kyle. This is a terrible, awful tragedy. Usher is torn up.”
Kyle and a 15-year-old girl were riding inner tubes on the lake Friday when they were hit by a jet ski. Both children were taken to Egelston Hospital. Kyle was put on life support and the girl was treated for a broken arm.
The accident is under investigation by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources. It has already been determined that alcohol was not a factor in the accident. A rep for the department says the driver of the jet ski has been interviewed and authorities will remain in touch with him throughout the investigation.
Kyle is one of Foster’s two sons with ex-husband Ryan Glover. Foster’s oldest son Darren is from a previous relationship. She also has two sons with Usher – Usher V, 4, and Naviyd, 3. Usher filed for divorce from Foster in June 2009 after more than 2 years of marriage. Their divorce was finalized later that year.
