Vera Wang, celebrity wedding dress designer and fashion maven, has decided to divorce her husband Arthur Becker after 23 years of marriage.
Wang married Becker, who is a computer executive, in 1989 at age 39. The couple married in a lavish ceremony in France. They have two children together, Josephine and Cecilia.
“Vera Wang and Arthur Becker have mutually and amicably agreed to separate. They remain devoted to their two daughters,” said Mario Grauso, the president of Vera Wang’s company.
After their marriage Becker became increasingly involved in her brand, so it may take a savvy divorce attorney to help them untangle their business affairs. A friend told Fashionista that the Vera Wang brand currently operates in two camps, Vera’s and Becker’s, so the divorce may not drastically affect business operations, but the brand could face some transformation.
Wealthy married couples have many more assets and community property to divide when they dissolve their marriages. Because they are business minded, these couples often have divorce attorneys draft up pre-nuptial agreements in order to protect their business interests and assets amid divorce. A prenuptial may seem decidedly unromantic, but it can prevent a lengthy and ugly divorce.
Children are more important than money or property and one of the primary concerns for a couple and their divorce attorneys. With their help the couple can resolve their custody issues and assure that custody is granted to the parent that will assure their well-being.
