The world was surprised Monday when Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes reached a divorce settlement in just two weeks. Everyone anticipated a long and acrimonious battle between the couple, but new reports show that Holmes used disposable cell phones to engineer the quickie divorce.
Cruise may have been surprised by the divorce filing but Homes was well-prepared. Ahead of the official filing, Holmes consulted with a divorce attorney and had everything in order before coming public with the news. But she didn’t use her own cell phone to make any important calls, she instead used disposable cell presumably to keep Cruise from tracking her calls.
Given their notoriety and the issue of Suri’s custody, the TomKat divorce could have dragged on for month or even years. But it was settled in a short 11 days with Holmes getting what she wanted, primary custody of Suri.
Before a divorce can be finalized the couple must settle a number of issues. The most critical issue if custody of the couple’s child or children. Parents can be so concerned with getting even with their spouse that the well-being of their children is at risk. When custody is an issue, a divorce attorney can be the voice of reason and assure the children are placed with the parent that will give them the care they need.
If a couple doesn’t have children, they will primarily be concerned with the settling their financial affairs. A divorce attorney will guide their client through the entire process assuring they get a favorable financial settlement.
