Steve Tyler Announces Departure From American Idol

Hours after Jennifer Lopez revealed she was likely leaving American Idol her fellow judge Steven Tyler announced he will not be returning for a third season. The rocker released a statement saying he will concentrate on his band, Aerosmith, and the release of their new album in early November.

"After some long ... hard ... thoughts … I've decided it's time for me to let go of my mistress American Idol before she boils my rabbit. I strayed from my first love, Aerosmith, and I'm back – but instead of begging on my hands and knees, I got two fists in the air and I'm kicking the door open with my band,” Tyler said Thursday afternoon.

"The next few years are going to be dedicated to kicking some serious ass," he added. "Idol was over-the-top fun, and I loved every minute of it. ... Now it's time to bring rock back."

Earlier on Thursday, Lopez appeared on the Today show and said she is still deciding if she wants to return to American Idol.

"Maybe it's time for me to go. It's been on my mind a lot, as you can imagine,” she said.

The 42-year-old said she is making up her mind “little by little.” “All I can let you in on is my own thought process with it because that's where I truly am ... I love everybody, I love all the guys on the show, I love the family that's there ... but I am thinking it's time for me to go and do other things I love to do,” Lopez told Natalie Morales.
