For the second week in a row the University of Michigan fell victim to their schedule. Having already completed their season with an 11-1 record and the #2 ranking in the BCS, the Wolverines appeared set to earn their re-match against the Ohio State Buckeyes. They lost that #2 BCS Ranking after USC beat Notre Dame and leapfrogged Michigan in the polls. It appeared a if USC would have to lose to UCLA on Saturday for Michigan to get their title shot.
That scenario played out but the Wolverines were once again upstaged by the University of Florida. The Gators 38-28 win over the Arkansas Razorbacks in the SEC Championship pushed them ahead of the Wolverines and seemingly assured them of An invitation to the BCS Championship in Glendale, Arizona to face the Ohio State Buckeyes.
Florida narrowly unseated Michigan for the all important number two spot in the AP Rankings, just three points separate the two schools. If Florida does get the nod in the BCS Championship, that will pit the Wolverines against the USC Trojans in the Rose Bowl.
LSU jumped up to #4 in the AP Rankings. Their 1,365 points were 32 points more than the Big East champions of Louisville. Wisconsin finished their year at 11-1 and are the third representative (Ohio State and Michigan) from the Big 10 to crack the top six in the AP Rankings.
Oklahoma’s Big 12 Championship win over Nebraska pushed them up to the #7 ranking, one spot ahead of USC. Undefeated Boise State jumped into the top 10 settling in at the #9 spot with a BCS Bowl on the horizon. Auburn rounded out the AP Top 10 rankings with 1,020 points.
