Web Development Company integrates microformats for SEO-friendly content

Hudson Horizons codes new sites with structured data

Web 2.0 Development Company Hudson Horizons is proud announce it is keeping up with the progression of industry standards by incorporating structured data into the professional websites they design and develop.

In May of this year, top search company Google announced it would begin supporting two open standards for marking up structured data: microformats and RDFa. Structured data allows developers to further define on-page content with HTML tags, allowing it to be easily recognized by search engines and human browsers alike.

Hudson Horizons VP of Web Development Matt Mayernik explained that “structured data formats content, such as company locations and product reviews, into code that is universally understood. This content goes into descriptive snippets that are displayed beneath page listings on regular search engine result pages.”

Browsers frequently peruse these snippets to get an extra glimpse into the webpage and an understanding of how it relates to their search terms. “An accurate description can make all the difference between a browser clicking on your link in the SERPs or skipping right past it,” Mayernik added.

The Hudson Horizons team recently incorporated microformats while coding a local flooring directory, directory.FindAnyFloor.com.

“Microformats helped add a tremendous amount of weight to the type of data we were defining on each webpage,” Mayernik continued. “For example, we coded the site so that search engines crawl ‘Las Vegas’ as the city in which a particular flooring store is located.” He explained that Google can recognize “89117” as Zip Code, rather than just a series of numbers.

“That’s tremendously valuable information for search engines and for shoppers.”

Further demonstrating the range of microformatted content, Mayernik explained that in the case of an e-Commerce store, he could define the criteria “4/5” as a product rank on a scale of one to five, rather than a four-fifths fraction.

Added Hudson Horizons founder, CEO and President Daryl H. Bryant: “We’re committed to fully optimizing our clients’ websites so that they stand out against industry competition and rise to the top of current SERPs. Microformats and structured data can help us move towards a future where this is possible... where content is dynamically recognized both by visitors and search engines.”
