The one hour season premiere of Big Brother 14 was packed with the introduction of 12 new houseguests, the first two twists of the season and the first Head of Household competition. The episode kicked off with a brief recording of the houseguests receiving their invitations to the Big Brother house. Back at the studio, host Julie Chen split the houseguests into three groups to enter the house. The first group to enter was Ashley, Wil, Frank and Jodi. They were followed by Shane, Jen, Ian and Danielle. Willie, Joe, Kara and JoJo entered last.
After choosing their beds the houseguests gathered in the living room for a brief meet and greet. Julie Chen then delivered the first twist of the season – 4 of the greatest houseguests to ever play the game will return as coaches. The veterans will each choose three new houseguests to coach throughout the season. The coach with the houseguest that is crowned the winner of Big Brother 14 will receive $100,000.
The coaches are: season 10 winner Dan, season 12 favorite Britney, season 7 winner Mike Boogie, and season 6 and season 7 favorite Janelle. The coaches and houseguests get a chance to mingle before starting the HOH competition. Dan and several others immediately suspect that Willie is related to Survivor villain Russell Hantz. Willie is Russell’s brother, but denies any relation to the reality star because he doesn’t want it to affect his game.
The coaches pick their teams before the HOH competition. Dan ends up with Kara, Danielle and Jodi while Janelle picks Wil, Ashley and Joe. Mike Boogie gets Frank, Ian and Jen. Britney chooses Shane, Willie and JoJo.
For the bedtime-themed competition each team must make their way across three wobbly mattresses to collect a teddy bear from a pit. The first team to collect three teddy bears and turn off their night light wins. The winning coach will chose someone from their team to be the first Head of Household. The coach of the team to come in last must send someone packing.
Britney’s team wins and she makes Willie HOH. Dan’s team comes in last and he evicts Jodi from the house.
