Alcohol Fueled Driving Spree Causes Power Outages, Netting the Driver 67 Traffic Violations

An Ocean City man caused chaos in the downtown when his alcohol fueled driving spree caused several accidents with injuries and knocked out power.

Police say that Michael K. Hall was intoxicated while he was driving downtown. They discovered that Hall ran into a BMW causing injuries to the passenger. Witnesses said he left the roadway and began driving down a sidewalk almost hitting several pedestrians before he crashed into a city-owned sign. He then struck a parked Cadillac which then crashed into an unidentified truck.

Hall continued driving on the sidewalk striking two trees and nearly hitting more pedestrians. He then ran into a power box and knocked out a transformer. Hall attempted to make a turn and then crashed into another vehicle, went on the sidewalk again nearly missing more pedestrians then struck a sign.

When police apprehended him the two tires on the passenger side were missing and Hall attempted to run from the officers. He also threatened to kill to kill the officers.

They discovered weapons in his car which included a rifle with a scope, a handgun with blanks, and several knives.

He is being charged with DUI, and 67 traffic violations which include leaving the scene of an accident with injuries and reckless driving. Given the circumstances of this case, it would be quite a challenge for a DUI attorney to get any leniency for Hall.

Hall refused to take field sobriety tests and became combative when he was taken to the police station, refusing to give his name or submit to a blood test.

DUI attorneys often challenge the validity of breathalyzers and field sobriety tests in effort to stop a conviction, but they have many other defense strategies.

In simple DUI arrests, which don’t involve hit and run accidents or injuries, the effective defense of DUI lawyer can keep an offender from facing  jail time or other tough penalties.
