Atlanta, GA- R&B singer Usher is reportedly seeking to end the custody battle with his ex-wife Tameka Foster following the tragic Jet Ski accident which left his stepson brain dead.
TMZ reported that Usher met with his divorce attorneys this week and asked them to draw up a proposal to end his messy custody battle with Foster.
Although the couple finalized their divorce in 2009, they have been locked in a battle over who would have custody of their two children. Usher’s initial offer called for 50/50 custody of their children, but Foster at first refused, igniting a custody fight that has lasted as longer than their marriage.
In November, Foster filed for sole custody of their children citing Usher failed to comply with the boundaries they set up. Earlier that year Foster allegedly threatened to harm him. Usher then refused to let Foster and their children live in his Georgia mansion.
Usher them changed his mind in the wake of last week’s accident and would like to grant Foster “majority” custody of their children and significantly increasing child support. Foster has not responded to his offer, but sources say she is open to a reasonable settlement.
Custody battles can rage on longer than it takes for a divorce attorney to settle the financial aspects of dissolution. Unfortunately spouses sometimes use their children as leverage to get back at their spouses, though this is not always the case.
Custody issues can be settled more peacefully under the guidance of a divorce lawyer who is more concerned with the best interests of the child or children.
