Oscar-winning actress Celeste Holm passed away over the weekend at the age of 95. Her niece, Amy Phillips, says Holm died Sunday at her Manhattan home after a brief hospitalization for heart problems.
"She passed peacefully in her home in her own bed with her husband and friends and family nearby," Phillips said.
Holm began her acting career on stage in 1936 and landed her first Broadway role in 1939 in The Time of Your Life. In 1943, Holm landed a starring role in the legendary Broadway musical Oklahoma!. Three years later Holm began her film career, starring first in Three Little Girls in Blue. She won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role alongside Gregory Peck in 1947’s Gentlemen’s Agreement. Holm’s other film credits include All About Eve, High Society and The Tender Trap. She also guest starred on numerous TV shows, including Columbo, Fantasy Island, Falcon Crest, Touched By An Angel and Whoopi.
Holm is survived by her fifth husband, opera singer Frank Basile, and two sons.
