Just a few days after signing a $9.5 million contract with the New York Nicks, Jason Kidd was arrested for driving while intoxicated.
Kidd, a point guard drafted to be a mentor Jeremy Linn, was driving in his Cadillac in South Hampton when he crashed into a telephone pole then plunged into a wooded area early Sunday morning. He suffered minor injuries and was taken to an area hospital for treatment.
Police took Kidd into custody after he was released from the hospital. He was charged with misdemeanor DUI.
People reported that Kidd was attending a charity, “Fostering a Legacy” event hosted by singer Ne-Yo and George Lucas.
He joins the ranks of numerous pro athletes, many from the NFL, who have been busted for DUI in the past few weeks. The list includes Eric Wright from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and David Diehl of the New York Giants.
Everybody makes mistakes, and getting a DUI is one of the biggest mistakes a person can make. Immediately after being charged it’s critical to go on the offensive by contacting a local DUI attorney to start developing a defense strategy.
A DUI attorney knows how to present a strong defense which can keep this charge from having a negative impact on your life. DUI penalties are frustrating and inconvenient but nothing in comparison to having a conviction on your permanent record which is nearly impossible to scrub.
Your DUI lawyer will do their best to prevent a drunk driving conviction or at the very least get your charges reduced.
