For the fifth time this year the Carolina Panthers (6-6) lost a game they led in the fourth quarter. Their 27-24 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles (6-6) dropped them into a four-way tie in the NFC Wild Card hunt.
Jake Delhomme threw two interceptions in the fourth quarter after playing nearly flawless for three frames. It was his final interception in the last minute that sealed the win for Philadelphia.
The teams traded scores throughout the game and neither team held a lead greater than seven points.
Delhomme threw two first half touchdowns, one to Steve Smith and another to Keyshawn Johnson and the Panthers held a 14-7 lead at halftime. The Eagles found the end zone on an 8-yard touchdown pass from Jeff Garcia to Brian Westbrook.
Garcia, who finished with 312 yards and three touchdowns, came out firing in the second half. His 30-yard touchdown pass to Dante’ Stallworth tied the score six minutes into the third quarter. Delhomme answered with a 35-yard touchdown pass to Deangelo Williams and the Panthers grabbed a 21-14 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Philadelphia tied the game at 24-24 after Garcia continued his impressive start as Eagles quarterback, hitting Reggie Brown on a 40-yard touchdown pass.
On the Panthers next possession Delhomme threw his first interception and the Eagles were able to capitalize with the go ahead field goal from David Akers. With 3:06 remaining the Panthers began their final drive and it appeared as if they would do no worse than send the game into overtime. Carolina drove to the Philly 7-yard-line with 28 seconds left but Delhomme threw an interception and the Eagles victory was sealed.
