Bollywood Star Rajesh Khanna Dies At 69

Legendary Bollywood star Rajesh Khanna died this week after battling an undisclosed illness for several months. He was 69. A rep for Khanna’s family said the actor was surrounded by his family, including his ex-wife Dimple Kapadia and their two daughters, when he passed away Wednesday at his Mumbai home. Khanna fell ill in April and had been receiving treatment at Lilawati hospital. He was discharged from the hospital on Tuesday.

“My father-in-law is no more. He has gone to a nice and heavenly place. I am happy that he has gone there and hope that everyone will pray for him," Khanna’s son-in-law, Akshay Kumar, told reporters Wednesday afternoon.

A rep for Lilawati hospital refused to reveal details on Khanna’s health problems. “We cannot tell you about the nature of Khanna's illness....Please get in touch with his family," the spokesman told PTI.

Khanna’s acting career spanned four decades and includes more than 180 films. He is often referred to as the first superstar of India. Khanna’s film credits include “Aradhana,” “Anand,” “Haathi Mere Saathi,” “Khamoshi” and “Amar Prem.”

A funeral service is planned for Thursday.
