The 2007 National Survey on Drug Use and Health found that an estimated 22.3 million persons were classified with substance dependence or abuse in the past year. The same report showed that only 2.4 million people actually received drug and alcohol rehab services the same year.
The types of treatment used varied as did the length of treatment – some went into inpatient drug rehab programs while others opted for outpatient or private counseling. The National Survey on Substance Abuse Treatment Services reported that only 6.3 percent of treatment admissions for 2007 were for long-term drug rehab programs.
There is a direct correlation in success rates for drug rehabilitation services and the length of time spent in treatment. Rehab programs that last longer than 30 days are more successful on average than shorter-term facilities of less than a month. The high relapse rates for short-term treatment is one of the main reasons why many people go to multiple centers throughout their recovery period.
Erica Catton, Director of Promotion for Narconon has seen the very same in treatment trends with clients she has spoken with through the Narconon drug rehab program. “A person should only have to go through treatment once,” says Catton. “When I see clients and families that tell me they have done as many as 10 treatment programs before Narconon; I can’t believe it.”
The Narconon drug and alcohol rehabilitation program is a long-term residential program with a more than 70% success rate for permanent recovery. The program is open ended because it is more individually-based to treat each individual specifically. The international network of facilities has seen tremendous growth since beginning in 1966 and graduated more than 25,000 former addicts just since 1995. There are now more than 140 groups and centers in over 40 countries throughout the world.
