Police have charged the tractor-trailer driver who was sideswiped By Kerry Kennedy last week has been charged with leaving the scene of the accident.
Authorities say that the driver Rocco Scuiletti of Poughkeepsie knew that he was struck by continued to drive without reporting the incident.
Just a day after Kennedy, the former wife on New York Mayor Andrew Cuomo, pleaded not guilty to driving under the influence of drugs, police filed charges against Scuiletti.
Scuiletti spoke with the New York Post, saying, “My first impression was that she was really, really drunk. She’s lucky she didn’t kill anybody.”
After Kennedy hit Scuiletti’s semi, one of her tires flew off into oncoming traffic. She continued to drive down Westchester Highway until her Lexus became disabled, where police found her slumped behind the wheel on an exit ramp.
In press conference following her plea hearing, Kennedy apologized to Scuiletti and the other drivers she put in danger. At her hearing she suggested that she had a seizure and asserted that there were no drugs in her system.
