NFL Preseason Monday Night Football: Miami Dolphins Look to Prove 2008 was No Fluke, Eli Manning Aims for Second Super Bowl Title

The NFL preseason will feature its first Monday night action tonight with a pair of games on schedule as the Miami Dolphins host their in-state rival Jacksonville Jaguars while the New York Giants host the Carolina Panthers in what could be a preview of the NFC championship game.

Miami is coming off a surprising 11-5 mark and an AFC playoff appearance and will be determined to prove that they belong in Super Bowl discussions. Chad Pennington had a great year and the emergence of Ronnie Brown sparked the Dolphins offense while their defense kept them in many games. For Jacksonville, Monday night will hopefully be a step in the right direction as they try to rebound from a dismal 2008 in which they posted a 5-11 mark and finished last in the AFC South. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET.

For the New York Giants life without Plaxico Burress proved difficult and Eli Manning is still trying to get used to a host of new receivers but he appears to be comfortable throwing to Mario Manningham and Sinorice Moss, and the addition of Hakeem Nicks could produce big yards and the running duo of Brandon Jacobs and Ahmad Bradshaw should keep the offense moving. As for Carolina, the Panthers are ready to put a disappointing end to last season behind them. After winning the NFC South and getting a first-round bye in the playoffs they were blasted by the Arizona Cardinals as Jake Delhomme tossed five interceptions. Carolina has been banged up a bit in the preseason with Steve Smith inuring his shoulder and Jonathan Stewart dealing with an ankle injury so Monday night might not produce too much offensive firepower for the Panthers. Kickoff is set for 8:00 p.m. ET.
