Coming off her big night at the Billboard Awards where she collected nine trophies, Mary J. Blige looks to add to her incredible year at the 49th Grammy Awards. Her critically acclaimed album “The Breakthrough” is up for R&B Album of the Year, while the hit single “Be Without You” received nominations for Record of the Year and Song of the Year. Blige also received a nomination for Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals for her work with U2 on the song “One”. In all Blige was nominated for eight awards.
The Red Hot Chili Peppers received six nominations with attention given to their widely popular album “Stadium Arcadium”. Among their nominations, the Chili Peppers are up for Album of the Year, Rock Album of the Year and Rock Record of the Year for “Dani California”.
James Blunt enjoyed an incredibly successful year with multiple award nominations as well. His hit single “You’re Beautiful” is up for Record of the Year as well as Song of the Year, it also earned him a Best Male Pop Vocal Performance nomination. In addition to his single, Blunt was nominated for Best New Artist and Best Pop Vocal Album for “Back To Bedlam”.
Prince continued doing his thing in 2006 and earned nominations for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance and Best R&B Song for “Black Sweat” a track off his album “3121”. He is also up for a Grammy for Best Urban/Alternative Performance for the titled track off of “3121”. His album received a Best R&B Album nomination as well.
“Waiting on the World to Change” earned John Mayer a nomination for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance and his album “Continuum” was nominated for Best Pop Vocal Album. Mayer jumped into the rock realm as well with a nomination for Best Solo Rock Vocal Performance for “Route 66”.
