Fourteen Illegal Immigrants Die in South Texas Crash

Late Sunday evening, a Ford 250 crammed with twenty-three passengers veered off a rural highway and slammed into a tree, killing fourteen people. Now authorities have stated they believe the passengers were illegal immigrants from Guatemala, Honduras and Mexico.

The truck, which was overloaded, ran off the road in broad daylight under clear skies. All but six of the passengers were ejected as the truck crashed into the tree. Eleven men, one woman and two children died; nine people are still in the hospital.

Investigators are still in the process of reconstructing the accident to determine the cause, but there is reason to believe that tire failure caused the driver to lose control.

In April, nine illegal immigrants were killed when a minivan carrying 18 people crashed on the same stretch of highway.

At just 145 miles from the Texas-Mexico border, this stretch of Highway 59 is commonly used by smugglers as help people enter the U.S. illegally. Instead of utilizing the skills of an immigration attorney, thousands upon thousands of immigrants rely on smugglers to bring them into the country, but they do so at a high cost and their own peril.

Immigrants are smuggled into country where they will be put in stash houses awaiting the next leg of their journey. They are crammed into stash houses and often suffer from malnutrition, dehydration and heat exhaustion.

Immigrants face tremendous hurdles when trying to get legal entry into the states, which is why they are willing to put their lives at risk. When they are up for the challenge and are willing to be patient, an immigration lawyer can make sure they get the HB-1 or other work visa they need to be legally recognized.

Many people across the globe hope one day they can come to America and build a new life. But without the necessary documents often obtained by an immigration attorney they cannot lead a life without fear of deportation.
