Jürgen Klinsmann Says, Nein, Danke, Drops Candidacy for U.S. Men’s Soccer National Team Coach

Despite rumors that swirled declaring Jürgen Klinsmann as the next U.S. men’s soccer national team coach the German has withdrawn his name from consideration.

The current team coach of Germany led his side to a third place finish in the 2006 World Cup and seemed poised to inherit the U.S. job after Bruce Arena was let go. Klinsmann had been the most attractive candidate for the job and it appeared as if the U.S. Soccer Federation would do whatever was necessary to land the California resident.

Apparently the Soccer Federation didn’t do what was necessary.

Reports indicated that Sunil Gulati, president of the USSF, didn’t want to give Klinsmann complete control of the team, an issue on which Klinsmann was adamant.
