Lupe Ontiveros, a Mexican-American actress whose credits including 'Desperate Housewives' and 'Selena', has died. Ontiveros’ publicist confirmed the 69-year-old passed away Thursday night after a battle with liver cancer. She is survived by her husband and three children.
Ontiveros is perhaps best known for playing Yolonda Saldivar, the convicted killer of Tejano singer Selena, in the 1997 film ‘Selena.’ Her other notable film credits include ‘As Good As it Gets,’ ‘Real Women Have Curves’ and ‘Our Family Wedding.’ Ontiveros also appeared on numerous TV shows like ‘Hill Street Blues,’ ‘King of the Hill,’ ‘Weeds’ and ‘Desperate Housewives.’
Ontiveros’ co-stars paid tribute to her in statements released Thursday and Friday.
"My friend Lupe Ontiveros just passed away. May you rest in peace. Thank you for your great contribution to film and TV. You will be missed,” ‘Selena’ actor Jacob Vargas Tweeted Thursday night.
"I'm deeply saddened at the news of my dear friend Lupe Ontiveros passing. She was more than a colleague to me, she was my family. My heart is with your family Lupe,” Ontiveros’ Desperate Housewives co-star Eva Longoria Tweeted.
"I am tremendously saddened by the news of Lupe's passing! I've enjoyed her work throughout the years. She was a great actress and working with her in Selena was an unforgettable experience. She will truly be missed,” ‘Selena’ star Jennifer Lopez said in a statement Friday.
