Chicago Accident Caused by Alcohol, Kills One Injures Seven

A Chicago man has been charged with DUI after he lost control of his vehicle and killed one of his passengers.

Police say that Pavlo Lulak’s blood alcohol level was three times the legal limit when they arrested him early Sunday morning.

Lulak, 24, was driving in the northbound lanes of the Kennedy Expressway around 4 a.m. when he hit a barrier. His car shot back into traffic where he struck two other cars. One of the cars veered of a highway ramp and struck a wall.

Lulak has several passengers in his car, some of whom were sitting on laps. One of his passengers, seated behind the driver, was killed.

Marianna Holovii, 23, died of her injuries. Several other passengers in Lulak’s car were also injured.

The majority of traffic collisions are caused by driver error. Inattention or driver distractions are the leading causes of auto accidents, but alcohol plays a large role.

According the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, one person dies every 51 minutes in an alcohol related accident. Alcohol-related accidents cause an estimated $37 billion annually.

The victims of traffic accidents are often saddled with costly medical bills and other debts while they recover from their injuries. The costs of accidental personal injuries can range from a few thousand dollars all the way up to millions. The victims who are injured because of no fault of their own deserve to be compensated by a negligent driver so they turn to accident attorneys to build a strong case and make sure they get all the compensation they are entitled to.
