Hurricane Bill Strengthens to Category 4 Storm, Bermuda Still at Risk

The National Hurricane Center has elevated Hurricane Bill to a Category 4 storm with top sustained winds nearing 135 mph and continuing to gather strength over the open Atlantic waters.

Hurricane Bill, at 11:00 a.m. ET, was about 380 miles east of the Leeward Islands moving west-northwest at 18 mph. While the Leeward Island are not currently at risk of a direct hit the same cannot be said for Bermuda which remains in the path of the growing storm.

If Hurricane Bill continues on its current path it could reach Bermuda within three to four days.

The storm is not seen as a real threat to the United States but could produce rough seas and rip tides through the weekend, posing danger to those who choose to take to the water.
