Top 10 gets a shakeup as #4 Alabama, #6 Texas A&M, and #9 LSU lose
UCLA remained the AP #1 after a week that featured a 78-54 win over Cal State Fullerton followed by a 65-62 win over then #6 Texas A&M. The Bruins head into the new week with just one game on their schedule, Oakland on Saturday. UCLA, now 8-0, don’t play their first Pac 10 game until December 28.
Pittsburgh survived a scary week to keep their #2 ranking in the AP Top 25. The Panthers were able to handle Duquesne 73-56 but they had to work a little harder than expected to beat Buffalo on Saturday. Their 70-67 victory pushed them to 10-0 on the year but the will have a tough task on Saturday when they take on #7 Wisconsin.
The North Carolina Tar Heels held on to their #3 ranking after beating up High Point 94-69 on Saturday. The 7-1 Tar Heels have only one game schedule this week, Saturday against North Carolina-Ashville.
Ohio State crept back up to the #4 spot in the AP Top 25 after they beat Cleveland State 78-57. The 8-1 Buckeyes moved up one spot after Alabama fell to Notre Dame. Ohio State will take on Cincinnati on Saturday. The Buckeyes have Florida on the horizon, that game is scheduled for December 23.
The Florida Gators claimed the #5 spot in the AP Top 25 after sharing the #7 spot with Duke last week. The Gators beat Providence 85-67 last Wednesday and don’t play again until next Sunday when they face Florida A&M. Florida improved to 8-2 and continued their climb back to the number one ranking.
Duke hopped up to the #6 spot after beating Holy Cross 57-45 on Wednesday and followed that up with a 69-53 win over George Mason on Saturday. The 9-1 Blue Devils don’t have any games scheduled this week but they do have #16 Gonzaga coming up on December 21.
Jumping four spots in the AP Top 25 was Wisconsin to settle in at #7 this week. The Badgers moved to 9-1 on the year after beating Winthrop 82-79 and then #17 70-66. Marquette. Wisconsin will take on Wisconsin-Milwaukee on Wednesday before facing off against #2 Pittsburgh on Saturday.
The Wichita State Shockers continued their unlikely run and improved to 7-0 after beating Wyoming 83-69 on Saturday. The Shockers are now #8 in the AP Top 25 and don’t play again until Sunday when they take on Maryland-Eastern Shore.
Alabama fell five spots to #9 after they lost to the then unranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Their 99-85 loss on Thursday was followed up by a 92-58 pounding of Alabama State on Saturday. The 8-1 Crimson Tide will face off against undefeated Southern Miss on Saturday.
Arizona jumped four spots to claim the #10 spot this week. The Wildcats moved to 7-1 on the year after beating Louisville 72-65 on Tuesday then Beating San Diego State 69-48 on Saturday. Arizona’s only game this week is against Houston on Sunday.
