The NFL preseason is heading into its second week and Thursday’s action has already brought a lot of attention due to the Philadelphia Eagles recent signing of Michael Vick. The former quarterback of the Atlanta Falcons will not see action when Philadelphia takes on the Indianapolis Colts as he is only eligible to play in the Eagls final two preseason games. Head coach Andy Reid has already said Vick won't travel with the team to Indy but he has been seeing penty of action on the practice field. With all the attention focusing on Vick it is easy to overlook the game pitting the New England Patriots and Cincinnati Bengals yet there are plenty of stories to follow when those two teams take the field.
After missing nearly the entire season one year ago Tom Brady appears ready to lead the Patriots back to the playoffs. Brady was 10/15 passing and tossed a pair of touchdowns in the Patriots win over the Eagles last week while Randy Moss looked sharp with three catches for 54 yards. Cincinnati is also dealing with high expectations as Carson Palmer has expressed optimism about his health and has a committed Ocho Cinco as a target. Palmer was 7/11 passing for 133 yards in last week’s loss to the New Orleans Saints. Kickoff on Thursday is set for 7:30 p.m. ET.
In Thursday night’s only other game the Philadelphia Eagles will be facing the Indianapolis Colts and everybody will be waiting to see what happens with Michael Vick. While the Eagles are still Donovan McNabb’s team the presence of Vick could open the offense and force defenses to prepare for a variation of the wildcat offense. McNabb was 11/18 passing last week before giving way to A.J. Feeley who looked strong, completing 18 of 24 passes for 211 yards and a touchdown. As for the Colts the 2009 NFL season will rest on the arm of Peyton Manning and the three-time NFL MVP has said he is ready for the challenge. Manning attempted just two passes in the Colts loss to the Vikings last week. Kickoff is set for 8:00 p.m. ET.
