Thursday Health Check Health Day to offer free well-child, well-baby examinations, student-athlete physicals

Managed Health Services (MHS), one of the state’s healthcare plans for residents on Medicaid, will host the next in its series of statewide Health Check Health Day events Thursday in Gary.

From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Simpson and Dandridge Pediatrics, located at 720 W. 5th St., medical professionals will perform free well-child and well-baby check-ups, age-appropriate children’s immunizations and required physicals for student-athletes. MHS will provide complimentary flu prevention materials, a “Kids Club” newsletter for children and health-related giveaways and snacks throughout the day. Those attending may also enter an after school healthy recipe contest sponsored by MHS.

Attendees with children ages 6 months to 2 years old are also encouraged to have their children undergo lead testing. Early detection of a child’s exposure to lead results in early medical intervention and treatment.

MHS’ statewide Health Check Health Day series began in February. In cooperation with local hospitals, health clinics and family physicians throughout the state, MHS has spread its “Live Healthy. Stay Healthy.” message and encouraged members of all ages to schedule annual examinations and routine health screenings with their local primary healthcare provider.

“Our ‘Live Healthy. Stay Healthy.’ initiative’s basic message is to remind our members that they need to take care of themselves,” said MHS CEO Patrick Rooney. “Our campaign is successfully reminding many to take care of their health for themselves and their loved ones.”
