The much maligned microfibre ball the NBA opted to implement this year has gone the way of the peach basket.
Beginning January 1 Shaquille O’Neil, Dwyane Wade, Lebron James and the rest of the NBA players will be dribbling the leather ball they love so much. After complaints that the new microfibre ball cut hands and lacked gripping the league opted to drop the ball and return to leather.
Executive director of the NBA players’ union Billy Hunter revealed that he got the call from the league office early Monday informing him of the league’s intentions.
Hunter said, “It was a sound decision. It wasn't working for the players. You can't have as many players speaking out against the ball and continue to use it.”
The players had been so upset with the microfibre ball that they had filed an unfair labor practice charge against the NBA. The players were upset that they were never consulted about the change.
