It was announced on Monday that the Will and Jada Smith Family Foundation made a $1 million donation to the Baltimore School for Arts. The high school is Jada Pinkett Smith’s alma mater.
Jada had asked that the new theater being constructed be dedicated to her former classmate, Tupac Shakur, but the school has opted to name the theater after her.
Shakur and Smith attended the school at the same time and became friends. In 1996 Shakur was killed in a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas.
The donation to the school will be used for renovation and expansion.
Pinkett’s acting credits include “The Nutty Professor”, “Scream 2”, “Ali”, “The Matrix Reloaded”, “Collateral”, and “Madagascar”. She is currently filming “Madagascar 2”.
Jada Pinkett Smith, 35, is married to actor Will Smith, the couple have an 8-year-old son, Jaden, together.
