Oscar-winning composer Marvin Hamlisch died this week at the age of 68. Family spokesman Jason Lee confirms Hamlisch passed away Monday in Los Angeles after a brief illness. The nature of Hamlisch’s health problems was not disclosed. No other details have been released.
Hamlisch composed music for dozens of films and Broadway productions, and won numerous awards for his work. In addition to a Pulitzer Prize, the musician boasts three Academy Awards, four Emmys, three Golden Globes and a Tony. Some of Hamlisch’s most well known film credits include "The Way We Were," "The Sting," "The Spy Who Loved Me," "Ordinary People," "Sophie’s Choice" and "A Street Car Named Desire." His Broadway credits include "The Chorus Line,” “The Goodbye Girl,” "Sweet Smell of Success” and “They’re Playing Our Song.”
Hamlisch is survived by his wife of 25 years, former Today show contributor Terre Blair.
