After being diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, actor Bob Hoskins is retiring from acting to concentrate on his family. The Who Framed Roger Rabbit star announced his retirement Wednesday in a statement released by his rep.
"He wishes to thank all the great and brilliant people he has worked with over the years, and all of his fans who have supported him during a wonderful career," the rep said. "Bob is now looking forward to his retirement with his family and would greatly appreciate that his privacy be respected at this time."
The 69-year-old’s career spanned over four decades and includes dozens of TV and film credits, including Hook, Mermaids, Enemy at the Gates, The Long Good Friday and Mona Lisa. His final film role was in this year’s Snow White and the Huntsman.
Hoskins has two children with ex-wife Jane Livesey and two children with current wife Linda Banwell.
