Peter Boyle, the ill-tempered father Frank Barone on the CBS hit show “Everybody Loves Raymond,” has died at age 71. He had been suffering from multiple myeloma and heart disease and past away at New York Presbyterian Hospital on Tuesday night.
Boyle was well known for his role in Mel Brooks’ “Young Frankenstein” in which he played the tap dancing monster created by Frederick Frankenstein.
Growing up a Roman Catholic in Philadelphia, Boyle went on to spend three years in a monastery before turning to acting.
He was nominated for an Emmy seven years in a row for his work on “Everybody Loves Raymond” but actually won the award for his work on “The X Files” as Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series.
Among his acting credits: “Joe,” “The Candidate,” “Young Frankenstein,” “Taxi Driver,” “Malcolm X,” “The Santa Clause I, II, and III,” and “Monster’s Ball.”
