Leonardo DiCaprio and Clint Eastwood Score Big in 64th Golden Globe Awards Nominations

Leonardo DiCaprio just picked up Best Actor nominations in a Drama for his work in “The Departed” and “Blood Diamond” from the Critics’ Choice Awards and now he has equaled the feat with two Best Actor nods from the Hollywood Foreign Press Assn.

DiCaprio will be joined by Will Smith (The Pursuit of Happyness), Peter O’Toole (Venus), and Forest Whitaker (The Last King of Scotland), in the Best Actor- Drama category.

Clint Eastwood went for the double dip in the Best Director category for his films “Flags of our Fathers” and “Letters from Iwo Jima.” Eastwood’s competition includes Stephen Frears for “The Queen”, Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu for “Babel”, and Martin Scorsese for “The Daparted.”

Nominations for Best Actress in a Drama went to Penelope Cruz (Volver), Judi Dench (Notes on a Scandal), Maggie Gyllenhaal (SherryBaby), Kate Winslet (Little Children), and Helen Mirren (The Queen).

Mirren actually beat out DiCaprio and Eastwood for individual nominations. She grabbed another two nominations for Performance by an Actress in a Miniseries or Motion Picture Made for Television. Her roles in “Elizabeth I” and “Prime Suspect: The Final Act” earned her the nominations.

Annette Benning showed some cross-over skills as well. She joins Mirren in the Performance by an Actress in a Miniseries or Motion Picture Made for Television for her work in “Mrs. Harris.” Benning is also up for Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical for “Running with Scissors.”

Beyonce Knowles joins Benning in the Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical for her work in “Dreamgirls.” The movie is up for five Golden Globes, including Best Picture for Comedy or Musical. The only other movies with more nominations were “Babel” with seven and “The Departed” with six.

The 64th annual Golden Globe Awards will be presented January 15 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.
